Build Your Voice

Singing training course

Develop a reliable vocal technique

Our flagship group singing course, Build Your Voice, is designed for people who want to really get to know how their voice works.

This is about understanding how to build a reliable vocal technique through practice exercises where you can really feel what’s going on with your voice. In this way, we can begin to:

  • Develop your range

  • Understand breath control

  • Change your tone

  • Learn how to stop your voice tiring out

  • Train in vibrato

  • Build confidence

These group sessions are geared towards helping you understand more about how your voice works and crucially, how to train it.

A phenomenal coach no doubt”

Learn in a supportive environment

Group singing lessons provide a supportive and encouraging environment to explore your voice and begin to build up a reliable singing technique that you can start to rely on.

These sessions are all based in Estill Voice Training, a world-renowned vocal pedagogy that is used to train vocalists in various industries from classical & opera through to musical theatre, pop/rock and contemporary music.

The methodology lends itself to group learning by breaking the voice down into structures and voice qualities that can be isolated and mastered gradually, one-by-one, to gain a holistic and fully rounded understanding of your voice.

There is then a gentle emphasis on developing performance confidence alongside this. You’ll learn songs alongside your technical work, which you then share in performance classes – a very informal and supportive setting!

So at the same time as developing your voice, you’ll meet like-minded people who will encourage you on your vocal journey as you encourage them on theirs!

“I have learnt so much about how the voice works since starting singing lessons with Guy – it’s been a revelation! It’s challenging but exciting and rewarding. Guy is very supportive and helpful, and lessons feel really productive and enjoyable.

What does the course look like?

Build Your Voice is a series of 8 x 90-minute classes run over 8 weeks. We will focus on one or two key structures of the voice in each session and understand it’s function in singing, and crucially, how we feel it and control it.

Here’s what you can expect in each session…

PART 1

Session 1

Breathing & Siren

Understanding how breath works is a vital part of healthy vocal function. We explore this alongside the vocal siren, which will form a key part of your technical warm up. After this session you’ll understand:

  • How breath leads to voicing

  • The fundamentals of healthy vocal function

  • How to connect your voice through your range without a break

  • How to stabilise the top of your range

Sessions 2&3

Vocal Range & Tone

In order to understand how range works, we will be looking at how the larynx moves as we change pitch and also what happens to the vocal folds as we move through range. These sessions are designed to help us get control of:

  • Moving the larynx for pitch

  • Moving the larynx for tone and quality

  • Changing vocal quality between ‘speech-like’ tone and ‘singing’ tone.

  • The mechanism involved with ‘true’ vibrato

Session 4

Releasing Tension

The process of training the voice involves getting some muscles to work that aren’t currently working, but it also involves getting other muscles to stop working that are currently working too hard. By releasing, in particular, tongue and jaw tension, we can:

  • Access range with more ease

  • Open up more resonance

  • Learn efficient vowel placement

  • Start to unlock ‘true’ vibrato

Day Three

Look Forward & Wrap Up

We explore the possibilities beyond this moment, making space for growth, action, and forward momentum. As we end our time together, we honor the experience, the growth, and the connections made along the way.
